1. Objective HRC

The objective of the HRC is to review blood and bone marrow specimens of patients diagnosed with MDS, AML or ALL who enrolled in a HOVON / SAKK study.
Both national and international hospitals who participate in the HOVON / SAKK studies submit the samples. The HRC ascertains the diagnosis based on the FAB classification and WHO classification.

2. HRC composition and work flow

The HRC consists of 10 members from academic centers. The secretariat of the HRC is located at the Daniel of the Erasmus MC. They receive the material, stain the slides and execute the first review. Thereafter, the material and first review results will be sent to a referee. This is one of the members of the HRC. After evaluation of the materials and associated review data, the conclusion is returned to the secretariat. It is assessed whether there is agreement in the conclusions of the patient. If so, there is a definitive conclusion made by the chairman of the committee. The materials and reviews with no similar conclusions will be discussed in a meeting. Approximately 1-2 times a year all committee members come together to formulate a conclusion for these cases and discuss current issues with each other.
